RIGHTEOUSNESS

God's righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe.

Romans 3:22

If you don't bake much you may not have all the utensils needed, so you may have to improvise. Unfortunately, this can sometimes result in overflowing batter if the bowl isn't the right size. Personal righteousness is similar. We compare ourselves to things most familiar to us--other people. We may think, Since I haven't committed adultery or murdered anyone, and I don't cheat on my taxes like others do, surely God is pleased with me. Scripture tells a different story. God doesn't compare us to our neighbors or even to the likes of Christian martyrs. The measure of righteousness is God's own perfection. When called "Good Teacher," Jesus answered, "No one is good but God alone" (Mark 10:18). Compared to this standard, we all fall short. God measures us against Christ's sacrifice.

Dear Father, thank you for making a provision for us through the sacrifice of your son. Amen
